Achieving a beautifully straight smile doesn’t have to involve traditional braces. With clear aligners from Sinnott Orthodontics, you can straighten your teeth discreetly and comfortably. These innovative orthodontic solutions are designed to fit seamlessly into your lifestyle, offering a virtually invisible way to achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

Why Choose Clear Aligners ?

Clear aligners (including Angel Aligners and Invisalign) are popular choices for teens and adults who want a more subtle orthodontic treatment. These custom-made aligners are clear, removable, and designed to gradually shift your teeth into their desired position without the need for brackets or wires.

Benefits of Clear Aligners:

  • Highly Effective: Clear aligners are now highly effective at treating a wide range of orthodontic issues, from simple to complex cases.
  • Virtually Invisible: The clear aligners are barely noticeable, allowing you to straighten your teeth discreetly.
  • Removable: You can easily remove the aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, making it easier to maintain oral hygiene.
  • Comfortable: Made from smooth plastic, clear aligners are comfortable to wear, with no metal parts to irritate your mouth.

How Do Aligners Work?

Aligner treatment involves a series of custom-made aligners that are designed specifically for your teeth. Clear aligners work by applying gentle pressure to gradually move your teeth into their new position. Consistency is key with aligners – they need to be worn approximately 22 hours per day. Each set of aligners is worn for about one week before moving on to the next set of aligners in the series.

Aligner Treatment Process:

  1. Initial Consultation: We start with a thorough assessment to determine if aligners are the right option for you. If so, we’ll take a digital scan of your mouth which is a 3d picture of your teeth and bite.
  2. Custom Treatment Plan: Using advanced 3D imaging technology, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan that maps out the precise movements of your teeth.
  3. Aligner Fabrication: Your custom aligners will be created based on your treatment plan.
  4. Fit Attachments and Aligners: Your start of treatment will involve bonding some composite attachments to teeth, which grip the teeth and act as brackets but are much more subtle than conventional brackets.
  5. Wearing Your Aligners: Each set of aligners is worn for approximately 22 hours per day, and you’ll switch to a new set every week. You’ll receive several sets of aligners to be worn sequentially.
  6. Regular Reviews: You’ll visit our clinic periodically to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.
  7. Completion and Retainers: Once your treatment is complete, you’ll be provided with retainers to maintain your new smile.

Who Can Benefit from Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are suitable for kids, teens and adults who are looking for a discreet orthodontic solution who are compliant (i.e. will wear aligners 22 hours per day). They can effectively treat a variety of orthodontic issues, including:

  • Crowded or spaced teeth
  • Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
  • Mild to severe misalignments
  • Teeth that have shifted after previous orthodontic treatment

Aligner Packages for Kids

In addition to Aligners for teens and adults, we also offer Aligners for Kids, a treatment option specifically designed for younger children. These are ideal for guiding the growth of a child’s smile and addressing early orthodontic issues in a comfortable and non-invasive way. We can improve a child’s bite while simultaneously straightening front permanent teeth early on. After phase 1 treatment, the child often only requires simpler, shorter treatment later and in some cases the orthodontic issue is completely eliminated very early on. Compliance of young kids is often better than teens.

Benefits of Aligners in Kids:

  • Early Intervention: Helps correct dental issues as they develop.
  • Comfortable and Removable: Easy for children to wear and maintain.
  • Custom-Made for Growing Smiles: Designed to accommodate the needs of growing teeth and jaws.

Signs your Child May Need Orthodontic Treatment

Not all children and teens require orthodontic treatment, but it can be highly beneficial for those who do. Here are some signs that your child might benefit from seeing an orthodontist:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Crowded or crooked teeth
  • Finger or thumb sucking habits
  • Protruding front teeth
  • Abnormal bite or jaw alignment
  • Top teeth biting inside the lower teeth
  • Disharmony of the jaws/ Discrepancy in facial profile

Caring for Your Aligners

Proper care of your aligners is essential to ensure the success of your treatment. Here are some tips to keep your aligners in great condition:

  • Clean Daily: Brush your aligners gently with a toothbrush and cold water to keep them clean.
  • Avoid Staining: Remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than cold water to prevent staining.
  • Store Safely: When not wearing your aligners, always store them in their protective case to avoid damage or loss.

What is a functional appliance?

These appliances work brilliantly with front teeth that stick out, for example, where the lower jaw is deficient. They are usually used in kids who are still growing. The upper and lower removable parts work together. When you bite, the blocks fit together in such a way as to position the lower jaw forward. Over time, the gap between the upper and lower teeth reduces. After this type of brace, braces may be put on to straighten teeth.

Traditional Method

Discreet Modern Aligner Method, also facilitates simultaneous straightening of teeth reducing treatment time

Traditional functional orthodontics include two stages: correction of the bite at phase I and correction of dental problems (straightening teeth) at phase II. Aligner Mandibular Advancement Solution combines the two orthodontic phases into one, which corrects and aligns the malposed teeth and bite simultaneously, thus improving the orthodontic efficiency, and shortening the orthodontic duration.

What is a crossbite?

The upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth. When the upper front tooth/teeth sit inside the lower front teeth, it can be associated with:

  • A forced shift of the lower jaw (mandibular displacement).
  • Sometimes, the lower incisor (tooth) can be pushed forward and get some gingival recession (the gum recedes from the front of the lower tooth).
  • This can also be associated with excessive tooth wear.

Our friendly team of professionals are experienced in diagnosing and improving all orthodontic issues.

Why are my front teeth sticking out?

Sometimes, discrepancies in the jaws or habits such as thumbsucking can cause the upper teeth to stick out, creating a larger gap between the upper and lower teeth. This can put your child at a higher risk of dental trauma. The rationale for treatment is that it can reduce the risk of a fractured front tooth and save expensive dental repairs.
