At Sinnott Orthodontics, we understand the importance of early orthodontic care in shaping a child’s smile and boosting their confidence. We offer specialised orthodontic treatment for children and teenagers in a caring, supportive environment.
Early orthodontic intervention can significantly improve dental health and aesthetics, setting the foundation for a lifetime of beautiful smiles. The teenage years are often considered the ideal time for orthodontic treatment because teens are still growing, making it easier to correct complex orthodontic issues. However, in some cases, starting treatment even earlier is often beneficial and compliance is usually even better in younger children.
Benefits of Early Treatment:

Not all children and teens require orthodontic treatment, but it can be highly beneficial for those who do. Here are some signs that your child might benefit from seeing an orthodontist:
At Sinnott Orthodontics, we offer a variety of treatments tailored to the needs of young patients:
At Sinnott Orthodontics, we provide thorough consultations to assess your child’s orthodontic needs. During the initial visit, we will evaluate their dental development, discuss potential treatment options, and answer any questions you may have. If treatment isn’t immediately necessary, we may recommend monitoring to ensure that intervention occurs at the most beneficial time if required.

Aligners offer a nearly invisible way to straighten teeth, ideal for kids and teens who prefer a more discreet option. Aligners are efficient in improving the bite while also straightening the teeth effectively. These custom-made, clear aligners are removable, making them easy to manage during mealtimes and brushing.
Ceramic braces provide a more discreet option for those concerned about aesthetics. They function like metal braces but use tooth-coloured brackets that blend with the teeth, making them less noticeable. They can also be jazzed up with different colours if your child wishes.

Metal braces are a reliable and effective solution for straightening teeth. They offer excellent control over tooth movement and are customisable with coloured elastics, making them a popular choice for kids and teens.
Dr. Paula Sinnott, a Specialist and Consultant Orthodontist, is uniquely qualified to manage all types of orthodontic issues in children and teens. Her extensive training and experience ensure that your child receives the highest standard of care throughout their treatment journey.

We offer Aligner First Treatment for children and Aligner packages also for teens. Aligners are custom-made, clear, comfortable and removable and designed to guide the growth of your child’s smile.
Although an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment to ensure the greatest result and avoid prolonged treatment times. The Orthodontic Society of Ireland recommends visiting a Specialist Orthodontist around age eight to nine. The rationale for seeing children at this age is to detect and, if possible, minimise or eliminate a developing orthodontic problem so that the need for later treatment is either reduced or eliminated. We may not recommend orthodontic treatment at this time, but we can offer orthodontic guidance. This allows us to monitor the growth of your child’s smile and intervene at the best time if necessary.
Not all kids or teens require treatment, but it can be extremely beneficial for those who do. Some signs that suggest a child may benefit include:
Not only can orthodontic treatment enhance your smile – it can also lead to better health.
We will assess your child’s dental development during the initial consultation and determine if they would benefit from orthodontic treatment. Early orthodontic screening may result in a recommendation for no immediate treatment. Instead, we may advise regularly monitoring your child’s growth and development to ensure timely intervention. In some cases, no treatment will be necessary.
Fixed braces are the most traditional orthodontic solution, our braces options are modern and sleek. From vibrant, fun colours to discreet clear brackets, we have an option for everyone at our practice. Kids can dress up their braces with different colours for fun.

Fixed braces consist of brackets, wires and small elastics. The brackets attach to the surface of your teeth, while the archwires connect each bracket. The elastics secure them in place. Fitting braces is usually painless, but the teeth will be tender afterwards, mild painkillers and wax will get you over the initial discomfort. Fixed braces are used to guide teeth into proper alignment. This is why you will visit our practice for adjustment appointments over the course of treatment.

Our metal braces are sleek and extremely efficient, proving to be a very common traditional orthodontic option. They achieve a high degree of control over the final positioning of teeth and provide a well-established process towards enjoying confidence-boosting results! You can also tailor the colour of your elastics.

Ceramic braces use tooth-coloured brackets instead of traditional metal ones. Therefore, they are less noticeable when you smile. Brackets are attached onto teeth the same way that metal braces are fixed to teeth. These brackets are stain-resistant to keep their discretion during treatment.

We offer Aligner First Packages for children and can also provide aligners for teenagers and adults. Essentially we can provide aligners for patients of any age. Aligners are custom-made, clear, comfortable and removable and designed to guide the growth of your child’s smile. They work efficiently and comprehensively in compliant patients. Your child needs to wear them approximately 22 hours per day , removing them to eat or drink anything other than cold water, also removing them while cleaning teeth and for contact sports. Technology of aligners have advanced and Dr Sinnott has completed a Fellowship in Aligner Therapy to ensure she is at the forefront of what can be achieved with this modern treatment for patients of all ages.
Sometimes, discrepancies in the jaws or habits such as thumbsucking can cause the upper teeth to stick out, creating a larger gap between the upper and lower teeth. This can put your child at a higher risk of dental trauma. The rationale for treatment is that it can reduce the risk of a fractured front tooth and save expensive dental repairs.
These appliances work brilliantly with front teeth that stick out, for example, where the lower jaw is deficient. They are usually used in kids who are still growing. The upper and lower removable parts work together. When you bite, the blocks fit together in such a way as to position the lower jaw forward. Over time, the gap between the upper and lower teeth reduces. After this type of brace, braces may be put on to straighten teeth.

Traditional Method

Discreet Modern Aligner Method, also facilitates simultaneous straightening of teeth reducing treatment time
Traditional functional orthodontics include two stages: correction of the bite at phase I and correction of dental problems (straightening teeth) at phase II. Aligner Mandibular Advancement Solution combines the two orthodontic phases into one, which corrects and aligns the malposed teeth and bite simultaneously, thus improving the orthodontic efficiency, and shortening the orthodontic duration.
The upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth. When the upper front tooth/teeth sit inside the lower front teeth, it can be associated with:

Our friendly team of professionals are experienced in diagnosing and improving all orthodontic issues.
We’ve all seen it- Thumb sucking, mouth breathing, object chewing; they can all lead to issues in children. An open bite means the upper and lower teeth don’t meet adequately when your child bites together. No vertical overlap of the teeth leads to them looking “open”. It can affect your child’s function, such as biting and chewing. Each child needs to be assessed individually, conservative advice can be given and some kids benefit from early interceptive treatment depending on your child’s needs.
